Married to An-Magritt since 2000 (though she used the years from 1991 to get the guy to the alter) Father to Lasse (14) and Lisa (11).
What´s there to say about "The Big Boss"? He loves wine and food of course, but that´s really no surprise. What many people don´t know is that Geir has an army of lifelong friends from the wine and food world. He is close to both Michelin chefs and pizza cooks, sommeliers as well as geeky wine nerds. Geir is respected and admired by many of the great wine producers of France, Italy, Spain, Germany and abroad.
Geir Sviland can talk grapes and soils, and he doesn't mind at all using a few hours discussing the microclimates of Burgundy or the "w onderfulness" of the grenache or pinot bianco grapes. His generosity is unequaled, but it's Geir´s undying curiosity about the world of wine that separates him from others in the trade. Up-and-coming producers or areas, a "new" grape variety, and the never ending process of making better wines, has never ceased to amaze him. Slip Geir free in the vineyards of California's central coast or Rioja Alta in Spain, and he's like a little kid in a candy store.
Geir is an energetic achiever, and those who know him can recount tales of his slightly twisted sense of humor. He can communicate with a passerby on the streets of pretty well any city in the world - regardless of wheter he or the passerby necessarily speak the same language. This kind of eery ability to communicate with people has been crucial in his role as purveyor of the good life.
The creation of Better Wines is the crown achievement (well, at least so far …) in a long career for Geir. He is a workhorse of otherworldly dimensions, and a loving husband and father. In a world full of oak chips and acidity by the spoonful, he's a forty year old big oak barrel ready for the next harvest of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Damn good qualities that any of us would be proud to have …
